Proverbs 12 – By our mouths

12:6 – The words of the wicked are, “Lie in wait for blood,” but the mouth of the upright will deliver them.

12:7 – The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous will stand.

King David plotted the death of Uriah – the husband of Bathsheba.  The jealous woman plotted the death of her roommate’s infant son.  Saul plotted the death of the Christians in Damascus.

In each case, the wicked were delivered by the mouth of an “upright.”   Nathan delivered King David; Solomon delivered the mother of the living child; Jesus delivered Saul.

Our world has struggled with feudalism, slavery, serfdom, Nazism, and Communism.  All of them resulted in the shedding of vast amounts of innocent blood.

All of them were defeated through the mouths of the upright.  Sometimes, it was the words; sometimes, it was what the words inspired people to do.

Today’s wickedness is Islam.

Some suggest Christianity and Islam are morally equivalent.  They aren’t!

For instance, the Quran says,

Quran (8:12) – “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them”

Open-ended, not describing an event.  This seems to fit Solomon’s definition of wicked.  And, there are 108 other verses.  I can’t seem to find the same admonitions in the Bible.

The good news for us (and for them, actually) is that we can deliver them from that evil.  But, it requires that we speak the gospel.

And, sometimes, we’ll have to use words.
