Proverbs 24 – Wage Your Own War

24:6 – For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, and in a multitude of counselors there is safety.

It’s interesting to watch Donald Trump’s campaign as it continues to confound those “in the know.”  While I claim no great insight into Donald Trump’s thinking, it seems to me that he is “waging his own war.”

In our world, “wise” is often used to describe counsel that brings victory.  The easier the road, and the faster the victory; the “wiser” the counsel.

And, ever since the advent of polling, the “wise counsel”  has been to “follow the polls.”  Avoid those subjects that don’t poll strongly, and keep talking about what does poll well.  Adjust positions to reflect “what the people want.”

As a result, we have been fooled into voting for politicians who (for the most part) campaign one way, and while actually serving in office, refuse to do what we elected them to do

Now, we have “the Donald.”

And, we see the current leader in the US Presidential race taking a different, more unconventional path.  Mr. Trump seems less concerned about winning than he is about speaking truthfully.

Maybe wisdom is not about selecting the easy path.  Maybe wisdom is about selecting the right path.

Maybe the Lord has a different definition of “wise” than we do.

Maybe that’s why Donald Trump is winning.
