Proverbs 1 – Next Summer

1:19 – So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; it takes away the life of its owners.

Americans are hard workers.  We pride ourselves on it.  Take off 5 weeks plus 12 paid holidays per year like the French?  Not on your life!  We’re much too busy to take that much time off during the year.

Take a daily siesta – like the Spanish?  Are you kidding?  We can’t afford to take time off every day!  Sure, we’d LIKE to take one, as soon as we’ve finished with our to-do list.

Too many Americans live by the motto:  When I/we get “this” done, then I/we can do “that.”  And, it almost always seems there is another “this” to be done before we can get to the “that.”

“Next summer,” when we have our financing in place and our business plan done, then we can start that business.

“Next summer,” when we have enough money saved, then we can go on our family vacation.

We spend a lifetime of “next summers.”  A lifetime of letting our desire for “gain” (money, fame, security, ease, breathing space, etc.) steal the precious minutes of our day – the precious minutes of our lives.

“Next summer” is nearly here.  Are you ready to act, or will you wait until the next “next summer”?

P.S.  This is written as a reminder to me.  (If it happens to apply to you, too, then I know I’m in good company.)
